Got my first parents coming to visit tomorrow evening - gosh, this is scary! If all goes well we should be signing the contract. Is the first time always this scary? ;D Got my son's old cot set up in the spare bedroom at the weekend but can't for the life of me find the mattress. I'll just have to explain to the parents I'm in the process of getting a new one if they ask lol. If the meeting goes well, I'll be made redundant from my office job on the last Friday in Nov and begin minding on the Monday. Fingers crossed

Good luck Bubbly. I am sure you will do just fine. I had my first parents on Friday and the boys have been here today so I must have done something right!
I found it easier that she had to come back the next day to introduce me to the children. That way we had discussed what she wanted and I had time to call on Tasha to guide me through the pitfalls of completing a contract.
Let us know how it goes

I always get a little butterfly in my tummy even now... and I've been doing this for nearly 14 years! In fact, we've got one coming tonight with an 11 year old for after school care and I know I'll be a bit nervy I think the key is to have all the papers in front of you and a pen to fiddle with... work through a list and let parents ask what they want... if you don't know the answer, be honest and say you'll get back to them - avoids hasty mistakes!! Good luck Sarahx

It didn't go quite according to plan - the dad had to work late and phoned to ask if he could postpone, so we've re-arranged for Friday evening. All those tummy butterflies and a day spent worrying for it not to go ahead lol ;D
Thank you all for taking time to wish me luck. The advice and lovely, lovely people I've met here has been brilliant. Will let you know what happens on Friday.

Oh well I hope it all goes ok on Friday Keep us posted Angel xx It went well and the contract was signed. The baby isn't even a month old yet and he starts with me in just over a week! I don't think it'll be long term as the parents have another child at a nursery and it's my guess the baby will go there too when old enough. One slight blunder with the NCMA contract though. When the parents had left, I realised I'd missed out the 'Charges for Absence' section. Stupid of me I know, but you know how it is when you get talking. Anyway, I have my own separate 'Fees & Charges' document outlining my charges and both parents have signed this. I've called the father to explain a section was missed but unfortunately got his voicemail. I'm going to suggest we complete this section on the day the baby starts as I have the signatures on my other form to acknowledge they know what the charges are. It's not ideal but do you think that would be ok?

Debbie Thanks Debbie I'm still feeling a bit of an idiot over the 'absence' boo-boo but it's not easy doing it for the 1st time and coping with nerves, as I'm sure everyone knows lol. Looking at the Child Record Forms, the mother has only provided mobile phone nos. and no work landline nos. Not a good idea if the mobile network crashes and I need to contact the parents in an emergency! Plus, she hasn't provided the address of the baby's doctor. Now I don't feel so bad over my error as we both made them lol. I guess I should have checked more closely but with the meeting already lasting 1hr 15mins, I was conscious of time. Oh well, we learn from our mistakes! I still feel an idiot though

I spent a sleepless night last night with nerve jitters wondering if I'm really cut out for this. I'm sure it's just because I have so much on my mind - I'm being made redundant from my office job of 21 years on Friday (Nov 30th) with very mixed feelings. I'll miss my colleagues so much but not the job itself. Plus, I have my ICP exam the previous evening (Nov 29th). Then there's been all the childminding application forms, Ofsted visit, policies to write etc. At the moment I have this kind of sinking feeling in my stomach. The fact I slipped over on the kitchen floor an hour before the parents arrived and was in agony with my heel, elbow and back didn't help either!
At least some of you had a hiccup on your 1st contract too. It nice to know I'm with the in-crowd ;D
Bubbly xxx
