Hi,
My friend and i are setting up together and are having our inspection this friday. We have completed all the forms sent back health forms, references have been sent back and we are paying our fee by phone tomo. We had hoped that we would be able to be up and running by the beginning of Jan after being inspected this week but am worried about everyones experiences of the CRB delay.
Both my freind and i have had CRB checks within the last year and still hold the disclosure forms, the inspector said that if we showed her this it would speed the process up. Has anyone else that has had trouble with this had previous CRBs done?
What is the shortest period of time that anyone has experienced from inspection to being able to run the childminders.

Great.
how many children are you allowed. We had hoped we could have 8 but have been told that may not be the case since we are just opening.
However, both my friend and i are qualfied (i have a degree in early childhood studies and a btec in nursery nursing, and she has nvq 3) and we both have 10 + years of experience.
Anyone think this would help convince them to give us more?

Hi,
I sent off all my forms and had my pre-registration inspection back in the beginning of July. I have only just this week received my regisration certificate after 4 months. (some of the people that were having CRB checks done had them done previously but it didn't speed up the process unfortunately.) Hopefully though you may be lucky.
As regards numbers, I know alot of it has to do with the amount of space that is available to the children.
Sorry I can't be of more help, Hope it all goes well for you both!

It does depend on the space available.

I had my Ofsted pre reg meeting on the 15 June and my registration cert was issued on the 22 August, I had to have CRB checks for both myself and hubby, they came through really quickly but I know this isnt always the case.
Good Luck!

I have an assistant, but can still only have the same numbers. However, the age of the children is different, as I am now allowed 6 under 5's, and 3 under 1's.
Not sure if this is different it there are 2 childminders though?
Good luck! Lisa x

Thanks all...is very worrying to think it will take four months!!!! Will have to remain positive. Have had about 3 or 4 CRBs in the last year or so, and i'm told basically your number just comes up on the system when you have been checked so previosuly, and this makes it quicker...who knows!!
As for the space, it is a large 3 storey house with both the bottom and middle floor dedicated to play. one room upstairs for naps and the kitchen to eat.
But would this be taken into account when first regsitering, i am told it doesnt matter how much space or experience you have they will still only issue six to begin....does anyone else have any other experiences?

Carolyn and I only had six in my home when we started together, but to be fair it was enough. (that was when she was my assistant) Now we are both registered Childminders we live next door to each other (quite an unique set up really) and we can have six each.
