Hi strawbs,
I'm sure more people will be along to give you advise, but when I had my visit I did have my policies typed up - although she didn't read through them all. I didn't have all my toys and equipment though - as like you I wanted to make sure I got through etc., but what I did was type a list of all the toys and equipment that I was going to buy once through. She was happy with this information.
It was very informal (from what I can remember), and she was quite nice.
I think as long as you show that you are planning, and have some information to hand you'll be fine!
Have you been onto the ofsted website? It tells you about your visit. Also the NCMA website is good as it has sample policies you can use?
Good luck! Lisa x

Hiya strawbs,
First off all dont panic 2 hours will fly by once she/he gets there.
I didnt have anything ready as i wasnt prepared for her coming i sent my application forms off on a thursday recieved a letter on friday got a call on the monday and she came on the tuesday.
I didnt have any policies written up i didnt have any toys or equipment i didnt have my fire guard or safety gates up becuse they hadnt arrived. All you have to do is show a knowledge of what you have to do so they know that you are aware of these things. If theres anything that needs doing to your house she will tell you when she is there.
When she comes she will ask you questions relating to the national standards such as what you plan on feeding the children, activities you plan to do etc just read your standards before she comes a few times and you'll be fine! She'll then take a lok around your house for anything that you may need to do she'll want to know which rooms you plan on using and then she'll calculate space and tell you how many children you can mind etc.
good luck Louise x

think the replies have answered your question.
Don't worry - you'll be fine. My inspector was lovely. She gave me lots of advice (although did tell me that she probably told me more than she should have)
I had my draft policies written up, but know lots of childminders who didn't. It's not a problem.
I was told that I didn't need a fireguard, so no point buying one if you don't need to.
Good luck!

Hello and welcome to the forum
Some good advice from everyone
Louise is right you do have to have a knowledge of what you are going to be doing
The idea of a pre-reg is for them to help and advise you and tell you what you do need
For example if you do need a fire guard and do not have one yet - explain that you will get getting one and why ?
Read through some of the posts on here I am sure you will then get a general idea
Give us a shout if you get stuck
Good luck
Angel xx

Hi Strawbs, Glad u asked these q's as I've just had a call from the inspector and she is coming round Friday morning. She sounded really nice and said that she would be going through the national standards, and that she doesnt expect me to have everything in place. As long as I know what I am going to be needing to get/do and why. So I have my policies and procedures all already typed up, and typed up my risk assesment and items needed last night. Just wondering where my CRB forms are though as she said they were sent out last Thurs Hope they turn up b4 Fri!!! Good luck on ur pre-reg, hope it goes well. I'm off to re read through all my notes and of course the 14 standards!!! Michelle.
