And what a lovely week it's been (ok, I know it isn't over yet but I think I'm safe to speak ! The little girl I'm minding has been an absolute pleasure to look after, hardly any tears, sleeping well, eating well, playing well. I feel so lucky to have such a sweetie for my first full time child! My daughter seems a bit put out to be sharing mummy but I think it will be good for her. There's only 4 months age difference between the 2, my daughter is 11 months, my mindee is 15 months, so in time that will be good (I hope!). I haven't done anything structured with her all week, just let her become used to where she is, is this ok? Does anyone have any suggestions of the type of activities that would be good for her and my daughter? You'd think that having 3 older girls would give me a clue but my mind is blank! WHen they were young I just let them lead me but being a childminder has to be more structured doesn't it? Also, should I be starting observations asap or letting her settle in some more and be more comfortable around me and the house? Questions, questions....sorry and thank you!

Hi there,
Congrats on your first week, the little one sounds an angel! It's lovely when you have them young.
I started in March this year, and my first child was 9 mths old. I have 8 altogether now - at different times of the day. I have a 15 mth old, a 8 mth old and the rest are older.
You've done everything ok, as you need to let them settle in. My 'babies' like 'bubbles again' game. Basically just a pot of bubbles, and I get them excited by asking them 'again?' before I blow them everywhere! They wait with little anticipated faces and then scream in delight when I blow the bubbles! Simple, but fun. Another one they love, is playing Peek A Boo, behind the net curtains, cushions, anywhere! They both do it back now, and they find it very funny - even though I can still actually see their faces! ha ha. I recently brought a pop up tunnel, which they really love playing in. One baby giggles everytime he crawls through, and then just sits in the middle waiting for me to ask 'wheres he gone?' - all simple little games, but they love it.
Sorry to waffle on! I think you can tell, I love playing with them!
Have fun, its great. Lisa x

with ref to the observations, I do a little daily diary for the under 3's, and I write mine as if the child is writing it (eg: Mom dropped me off this morning and I'm a happy boy. I ate all my breakfast today, and then we went for a nice walk etc etc). then I give it to the parents to take home over the weekends. I then also have a weekly sheet where I write down what they've done, observations, what they're saying/doing etc., which I keep but the parents can view at anytime.
Hope this helps Lisa x
