I am looking to go into a rented property. I thought that if you had the landlords permission you were able to do this. After speaking with one letting agent they told me that I was unable to do this as I was unable to register a business at a rented property. Does anyone know if this is the case or could anyone let me know where I can find this information out? Thanks for any help you can give me.

hi tigger welcome to the forum. I live in private rented accomodation and i told my letting agents about my plans on becoming a childminder and they were fine with it. I do think it's down to your letting agents/lanlords descrection, saying that my landlord didn't want pets and i've got two cats, the agents just turn a blind eye lol

You are correct....as long as you have written permission from the landlord to childmind from the premises then you are fine. Tasha

Good advice from everyone - there are some landlords out there who don't have a problem.
Even if the letting agent says no ask them to approach the landlord and ask.
I think most landlords are worried that you will have dozens of children in the house trashing it - I think if you can alleviate those fears then most are happy to let you do it.

Thank you everyone for all your help. I have also spoken to the NCMA who have said that there is no law that says you cannot mind in a rented property and it is classed as a "de minimus" business and as long as the landlord is happy it's really up to them. Hope this helps anyone else.
