Hi all,
I am new on this forum, my name is Cindy and I have always loved looking after children, playing and teaching. I used to look after about 20 children at once for 2 to 3 hours on a saturday and really enjoyed it a lot. As I have always liked being around children but have also always wanted to work from home I think Childminding could be an ideal career for me. However, I am not sure I would be able to do it as I am only 20, and although I know you can be a childminder from the age of 18, I don't think people would trust a 20 year old to look after their children on a daily basis. What do you think about that? Also, I am French and people might think that if my English isn't perfect, it might have a bad influence on their children's English? However I have been living in England for a couple of years and don't have a strong French accent so not sure whether it would be a problem or not. Also, I rent a property with a very close friend of mine, she is 43 and used to work in a nursery and would consider registering aswell, just in case I had an emergency or something. BUT the reason she stopped working at the nursery was because she is disabled (club foot) and since she broke her leg 11 years ago, she has had to walk with a stick, so we don't know either if she would be accepted? Apart from that, I have some more general questions I'd like to ask :
- How long roughly has it taken you from the time you got your registration forms till you became registered?
- Once you are registered is it difficult to find children?
- Do you have to drive and if so, do people think it is a problem if you are a new driver?
- Although I mainly want to do it because I love children, I still need to know how much a month can I expect to earn when I start (If you could tell me a bit about your own experience)?
- How long did it take you to have enough mindees to work full time and/or have a full time income?
- And finally, do you need any qualifications, if so which ones and where can you study ?
Thanks very much for your help and sorry for asking so many questions
