Woke at 6.30am with DD and fely decidedly sick (kinda like a car sick feeling) hoped it would just wear off. It couldn't happen at a worse time it's half term and on a Thursday I look after a little boy (not 'childmindng' it is just my friends, who died earlier in the year, son (his regular CM had no space thursdays)) I didn't like to let the dad down so he was dropped off as usual. Top and bottom of it is how do you CM's cope when your feeling under the weather - but not ill enough to 'shut up shop'? I am lucky that my mum and dad have whisked them off to the park - however, I know this won't be an option once I'm registered. This has really made me think Mandy xx

Hi Mandy
Sorry youre feeling unwell...thats one of th edown sides to being self employed....and the other problem is if you had full blown D&V you wouldnt be aloud to care for the children, against Health and safety....I felt a bit yuk the other day (just a head cold, when dosed up didnt feel too bad) but I phoned all the parents and explained the situation, they were all happy to send their kids.....It would have been an expensive day if I had lost the wages...........so Im now starting to put money away......If I can put at least one weeks away, I'll feel happier
Hope youre feeling better soon x x x

It can be a pain yes if you feel unwell but still have to work
It depends what it is though
For example I am in pain almost every day due to the problems I have with my leg but I still work I just get on with it
If it is something that you can spread to the children then of course you have to have the time off
Normal colds though I work and the kids still come if they have one We would be closed all winter if I did not allow that
I have had days where I have felt terrible though but not known what was wrong and I have still worked
Hope you feel better soon
Angel xx

I can't afford to be ill.... so I dose myself up and keep going! It's awful to start with cos you do seem to come down with every bug going... but eventually you build up some immunity Feel better soon! Sarahx

Ive just had to close for 2 days this week as my own kids have both had D&V and cant have it spreading to the others.
Its just one of those things about working for yourself.

Me too - unfortunately both myself and my children have had d & v - so have had to close for 3 days - timing couldn't have been worse being the school hols. Nothing I could do about it though-luckily parents have all been understanding-same as everyone I hate letting people down (as well as losing so much money!).

It is really hard and I had to have my first day off last week with a 24 hour bug. Nothing that could be done about it though and luckily the parent was really understanding
