Hello All, I have just registered and offer ad hoc childminding so that I am able to still work as a supply teacher BUT I still haven't contacted the planning dept environ health etc. Do you write asking their permission to run a childminding business from home or do you just state that you ARE running it. Do OFSTED look to see that you have these letters? Any drafts would be greatly appreciated! Pootle xx

You don't need to contact them Pootle! Environmental health - the latest is, if you are TOLD to contact them then you must, otherwise don't worry. Planning Dept - only necessary if you are working with another minder and having quite a lot of children. Relax and save your ink!

This again is different where I am. I had to send a letter with my application form confirming I had contacted planning.
There is some planning guidance on the NCMA website under downloads but it doesn't really answer the question sorry!!

Like Pauline says, you need planning if you're minding over 6 children...eg if you're working with another minder We're not regulated by environmental health here yet - I did write to mine to check but got a standard 'don't worry yet' letter - some areas are, some aren't Sarahx
