so I called the CSSIW for an update on my application. The Chief Inspector confirmed all my paperwork was in order (and has been since mid July) but none of the Inspectors have any time to assess new minders!!!! Charming
She did say it should calm down after the end of this month so with any luck I could be registered by the end of October!!! Not bad, it has only taken 12 months

That's blooming ridiculous!!!!! Aren't they recruiting for more minders in wales at the moment? I have to say you've been a heck of a lot more patient than I would have been....... ring again next week... and next.... and next - just to check on progress! They might get sick of you and come!! LOL Sarahx

I have been getting even more wound up about it since I got off the phone.
My paperwork that I slogged my guts out writing has been sitting in a draw in their office since May when I handed it in. It isn't even looked at until I am assigned an Inspector!! It wouldn't be so bad if it was just an application form but it's not. You have to include a Prospectus and all your Policies and Procedures.
It is maddening but all I got was that they were short staffed and Inspections were more important as they had a legal obligation to fulfil these.
I saw one of the other ladies the other day that had been on my ICP course in January. Of all the people we have kept in touch with not one of us is registered yet. How ridiculous is that.
Good job I am in this for the love of the job and not money or I would have had to change career direction long ago!!!
Sorry, Rant over and I will keep pestering them. I have got a real bee in my bonnet now

I can't believe that they have kept you waiting this long! I would keep pestering too if I were you. For goodness sake, how will they ever recruit more childminders in Wales if this is the way they go about it Mel x

Oh my goodness Amanda I didn't realise you had been waiting that long.
Once I submitted my part 2 forms it only took 6 wks and that was with the CRB check and every thing.
Have you had your pre reg inspection yet?
It must be your area maybe - what a nightmare! You should ring every day and really annoy them!!!
Hope its sorted soon Hollyx

No Holly, I haven't had the pre reg visit yet. They changed the goal posts in our area so you had to hand in your part 1 & 2 together after you had completed your ICP which I did in May. I expected a call soon after my CRB came back which was in July but still nothing.
Just shows even different parts of Wales operate to different time scales!!

Hi, I'm new on here but been reading the posts for months. Just wanted to tell you i had the same problems with the cssiw. I started things last november and as you say they now say you have to submit parts 1 and 2 together (i'm in south wales). I did this the begining of may and by july had not heard anything from them. I had a friend who wanted me to look after her boys for 1 week so i phoned them and said i had children lined up and if i wasnt registered in time i would lose them (didnt tell them it was only for a week!!). I had the visit the next week, registered the following week. maybe you could try that. unfortunatley i have had no enquireis yet so still not working :-[

Thanks for that Morgan!! Welcome to the forum by the way.
I did tell a little fib and say I had parents waiting but unfortunately it didn't make difference.
Never mind, I will get there in the end. I am infact enjoying spending time on my own with my little boy. I never had this opportunity with my two older children as I worked full time so I suppose I am not making as much fuss as I could.

How can they say they need minders in Wales when they aren't registering those that have applied - if they did they might find they don't need anymore - if you see what I mean.
I think that makes sense.
Hope you'll soon be registered Amanda

Thought I would give you an update. My persistance has paid off and I had a call at 5pm to say I have been allocated an inspector!!! She is going to call me next Tuesday to arrange the date for my visit. Thought I would be nervous but I'm not. Like you said Holly I have spent so much time on here that in theory I am an expert!!! Now in practice that is a different matter!! I am struggling with postive behaviour management at the moment. How do you explain to a 16 month old that it is good to throw and catch balls but the same can not be said for the tin of soup he has just thrown at his sister!!! Amanda xx

Ooooo I read about that recently - it's schemas! A trajectory schema to be precise...... he is experimenting with trajectories and can't make out one from another...... You're supposed to expand his interests in trajectories and guide him down a different route from tins I think! See here for info.... www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?articleid=357248Sarahx Forgot to say - congratulations!!!!

Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks Sarah, I am trying so hard not to use no, can't & don't but I am really struggling. I suppose he will at some stage get the hang of why he can throw a ball and yet not a tin of soup (the soup was still in the tin I might add) or why he can hug and squeeze mummy to death but it is a bit too much if he does it to the tiny baby at toddler group or why he can point to his eyes, nose and mouth but why other people are slightly put out when he pokes them in the eye!!!
Angel - I am really excited. I can't believe it has been nearly 12 months. I am however slightly concerned that if I do get some children to look after I will no longer be able to get my forum fix!!!

Holly, how funny!!! Hope you are feeling better. I can just imagine explaining to CSSIW why I allow a 16 year old to throw tins around the room. Haha!!!
No it is my 16 MONTH OLD that I am practising positive behaviour management on.
