I have been registered for three months, had two enquiries and of those I was supposed to start minding two boys starting in two weeks but today the mother has said she isn't going back to work after all. I am very disappointed, how can I attract more enquiries? I have a t-shirt with "childminder" and my name and number on it, I have put postcards up in shops and through letterboxes and I have my website listed on my local CIS website. I had visions of me working in the new year, having an income myself instead of relying on hubby and it has gone down the pan. Katrina www.katzkidz.zo.uk

Hi Katrina and welcome to the Forum What a shame to be let down, had you taken a retainer fee? I don't know what else to suggest, you seem to be doing all the right things. Quite often it takes a while to get going then work comes rushing in. Have you tried any local business parks? Often they will let you leave leaflets in their reception areas or post it on the staff notice board for their workforce to see. Nice website - I've signed your guestbook!

Hello Katrina,
Welcome you will find lots of friendly people and advice on here
Well Pauline is right you are doing everything you can and did you ask for a retainer these people just do not realize it is our job do they the way they let us down
Have you tried your local schools , nursery's? ( If children are part time parents are often after a childminder for the rest of the day ) What about your local doctor and the health clinic also the library
I hope something comes your way soon and don't forget don't turn down the part timers these are the ones that can make your hours up if you have a few of them. A lot of childminders have told me that when they start out they always wait for that "full time " one , well my advise is part timers too !!
Good luck don't give up it will happen soon
Keep us posted

HI KATRINA, I FEEL THE SAME WAY AS YOU. I'VE HAD MY OFSTED VISIT & WAITING ON MY CRB CHECKS AND CERTIFICATE. I'VE ADVERTISED IN MANY PLACES BUT STILL NO REPLYS. I WAS WANTING MY OWN INCOME FOR JANUARY 2007 INSTEAD OF RELYING ON MY HUSBAND OF 3 WEEKS BUT I CAN'T SEE THIS HAPPENING. ROSALYN

Don't give up hope yet!
After Christmas there is often a rush as people try to find jobs to help pay off the bills they've built up!
