Have any of you advertised your business before becoming registered and started a waiting list??? I gave up work before christmas to be with my girls....I now want a job where Im my own boss and get time to spend with my kids......Dinggggg.....lol that was a bulb lightling in my brain lol...........I have been considering CM'ing for ages...........any hooo as word of mouth Ive got a 3 year old lined up 2 1/2 days a week, obviously not knowing how long this is going to take is it worth actually advertising, or just casually mentioning to people?

Hi Louise
It can take a while to become registered Louise, plus there will be courses that you will have to do first like your first aid, then there will be police checks for you and your family. Then all the checks will have to be done at your home to make sure it is safe
Once you have done everything and you are just waiting for your registration from Ofsted then it is a good time to start advertising
It can take a good 6 mths for it all to go through from start to finish and I have heard more in some places although do not quote me on that.
Your actual registration certificate can take around a month or two after all your checks and courses ( please correct me anyone if I am wrong , I am using these examples from a friend who recently became registered in my area ) So in that time whilst waiting for your certificate you could then start your advertising
If you do have someone lined up you can mention this to Ofsted who can sometimes do things quicker in cases like that . But you will still need to do everything that I mention here
Good luck let us know what you decide to do , have you sent off for any information yet or been in touch with anyone about childminding ?

Hi Louise,
I am not really sure about you paying to get a quicker CRB check someone else may be able to tell you . like Pauline when she is back
What I do know is that my daughter decided to become a childminder 3 years ago to work alongside myself She was and is a nursery nurse and of course because of her job already had a CRB check
She still had to have another one done though for her childminding we did question that and even though she did not have to pay to have it done again because it was done as part of her registration it did seem a bit pointless and a waste of money , but it made no difference
So based on that I am not sure if you could get it done yourself
Sorry I cant help you much on this one

I agree with what Bev said
I know someone who had the same sort of thing happen
Ask to double check everything the slightest mistake can hold it back for ages
Oh Louise you have your pre - reg on Monday
Are you nervous , do not be it will be ok and it is fairly informal
Good luck and let us know how you get on !!
