I received a call yesterday from Ofsted saying they were updating their database then asked how many children I look after, days and how old they are. Having been childminding since September this year, I'm still clueless about the B23 because I've not had any mindees in this age bracket (I currently have two 4 year olds and an 8 year old). If I'm honest, I'm in no rush to have a young one but feeling as though my inspection is coming up (don't know when), what do I need to do about B23. I've got the B23 pack (all looks too confusing) and Angel kindly sent observation sheets etc to me but I've never had to use them. What would Ofsted be looking for exactly surrounding B23 - also, what else is expected of me? Thanks for your help.

You can only show evidence of what you do so as long as you follow foundation stage with the 4 year olds and have obs and planning based around that, you'll be fine Just make it clear you are ready to use birth to 3 should the occasion arrive and how excited you are with the new EYFS as it brings them all together in one coherent framework Sarahx

Sarah I am now really panicking. What is it you need to do surrounding the Foundation Stage? I really am clueless. Where can I find information? What do I do? I have nobody in my area to ask and the childminders I have met, are extremely unhelpful. Basically, I pick up the two 4 year olds from school at midday, have lunch so by time that is done, we have just over an hour to do something before we go and collect the older children. When we get home, I'm then in the kitchen from 4pm to have tea done by 5pm and after that they go home. Please help. Thank you so much.

Unless your accredited you don't HAVE to do anything re foundation stage..it's optional. If you are accredited ..then go ahead & panic! LOL Tasha

I think my heartbeat has slowed down a bit reading your message Tasha. I'm not accredited needless to say. What I do is keep a weekly diary and write a few lines about what we have done during the day. I give the diary to the parents at the end of the week. I've taken photos where we've done activities so just need to print them and put them in an album and have just done my first newsletter with a questionnaire of how the parent rates my service and what can I do better (if anything - lol). What I do need to do is sit down a read up on B23. Is there anything else I should be doing? Thanks

The one thing my ofsted inspector picked up on was that whilst I knew about B23 and recorded stuff I was not using it to plan the next step (probably cos I have no idea what am doing most of the time lol)
love Kate

Firstly don't panic!!!
You sound great! My first inpection, I just said, I've got my BT3 and starting to read into that, getting on a training course (say it even if not, and say how hard it is too get on one lol)
If I had been on this site when I started I would be the same as you! They like to here about what you plan to do, ie: attending toddler groups, play parks, how you met al the needs of children ect (hope I'm helping lol)
You sound like you have a nice age group to start!
