So i have had a new child start last week just wondering what you all do observations and assessments wise as he was previously with a childminder for 18 months, should i just observe him for a couple of weeks and seee what he can and can't do them make up an assessment sheet detailing my findings and planning for his further development.
I was reading through my EYFS pack again tonight and on page 18 of the statutory framework booklet it say's.
Where a child moves to a new provider during the academic year, the provider should send the following information to the new provider within 15 days of a request from the new provider.
EYFS profile data Assessments made on the child
Do any of you request this information from another childminder if the child comes to you.
Just wondering Thanks Bev X

Hi Bev! Yes I think that's what I'd do... I've never asked for info from the old provider and since we're not working to EYFS yet, it's not statutory You'll be able to make your own baseline assessment fairly quickly anyway It's a biggie nowadays to feed in what parents say about their child's abilities, preferences etc so make a note of all that on a new child start up form or somewhere and keep it in the file - then feed back what you're seeing happen, ask for their comments and write them in etc Hope it goes well! I've recently taken on a child from another childminder (she moved away) who had been going for 2 yrs. When I spoke to mum gave my child's details forms ect, she had never had anything from her previous childminder!
Which to me when you've taken on a baby of 6 months (at the time he started with her) I feel is bad! SO I look good anyway lol ;D agree with sarah on the fact it's not yet statutory so I've never asked.
I know the schools pre-schools ect share info already (but maybe because of the provider they are they have too?) sorry to waffle!!

I agree with what's been said and can I add that when you have a child start Nursery/ move away remember to send some paperwork with them , I recently done this for the 1st time and had a lovely message sent from Nursery saying what a help it had been and how it had made the move easy on the child. They thanked me on my professionalism and expertise . (it was lovely getting a comment like that )
