Hi guys I know this has been brought up before as to whether we can start using the EYFS framework and that replies from ofsted have varied. Apparently, after trying to speak to them again today, I was informed that although I would be inspected on the Birth to Three criteria, I was unable to obtain a copy of this as they were now out of print and wouldn't be being printed again as the EYFS packs were now replacing them. Luckily I have a copy of B23 from a friend but I did ask them how I could be graded on something I hadn't received and they had no answer for that one! Another example of Ofsteds red tape Mel x

To be honest i'm working with eyfs as i find it easier to understand . But i think they are very similar . AS i've just started minding i didn't see the point of struggling to get my head around B23 when i've got to comply to eyfs next year . but when i was looking over my daily records for waht i had done with the baby i mind over a 6 week period i had pretty much covered all the relevant stuff in B23 with out even trying . I think we do most of it in every day stuff without realising . Feel like i'm waffling and contrdicting myself !!! lol . i'm tiered ;D

Ofsted told me in a letter they are perfectly happy with me using EYFS and since I've just been inspected, that's what I'm doing.... trouble is, nobody has been trained yet and I think there's a general worry we'll go off and do our own thing so everyone will be doing something different.... Sarahx

i have spoken to OFSTED this afternoon. they say that if you are inspected between now and october 2008 you will be inspected on national standards and b23. They have said that the EYFS is not in place and should not be used. They said you should ONLY familiarise yourselves with it, not actually use it. I personally think this is rediculous as i have been trained on EYFS, never got a space on B23 and now i have to wait a whole year before i am allowed to implement it - by which time i will have probably forgotton it. x

I phoned up on this and was told the same as you, but from Sept 08 EYFS will be used!! Before then the National Standards are to be used! I think they don't even know yet!! My asessor for my NVQ is worried as when it comes in all the NVQ stuff will be switching too and she's had no training yet!

The reason it is best not to use it is that the inspectors haven't had their training yet!!!
Their training starts from March/April 2008 ready to implement by September. So if they inspect you and you are already working to EYFS then they won't even know what they are looking at hence the reason you have been told to work to B23 and the National Standards.
If you have fairly recently had an inspection and you do not think you will come up again in this cycle (new cycle starts in September) then there is no reason why you can't implement and work to EYFS now - but if you are waiting to be inspected then you need to still work to B23 and National Standards.
Hope this helps
