Whos's been on this?
I went last night and thought it was the biggest waste of 90 minutes i've sat through.
We were given a guidance sheet with about 10 pages and all the woman did was read through each bit. I am failing to see why we needed to have it read to us, I could have read what she said in 90 minutes on my own in 10 minutes at home. It really bugged me. There were a couple of questions at the end but the room was so big we couldnt hear the 2 questions that were asked and so the answers made no sense.
It was like sitting in a class and being read to while we we followed the words. Not impressed. I know it was just an introduction but when you think of the money these training sessions cost - it could have been put to a much more productive use of time!

I haven't been to one and must look up when they are being run in my area.
Sounds dire Lana. Do they think childminders can't read then? What an insult.
Did anyone say anything about it being a waste of time to the tutor. If it was purely for her to read out some sheets to me I think I would have said something. I have far better things to do with my time than be read to like a child.
Ummm, not impressed. Sorry, I'm ranting a bit aren't I.

No, we were in a big hall with about 150 people. There was a key speaker - couldnt tell you her name now. She was using a powerpoint presentation of the exact same sheets we had infront of us.
It was just ridiculous.
I better add that they did show a 10 minute video of a nursery in Durham showing all about a theme they did on the Tsunami and how they children reacted to it. Basically showing how what they were doing was relating to different aspects of the EYFS.
But a waste of time really

Lou,
I think the actual training will be fine and I never received any B23 training because the stopped doing it in this area so I think they training will be beneficial (well i hope so!)
but the briefing session was pointless, you could do it yourself in 20 minutes, probably less

I had heard that the first session was little more than opening the pack and going through the contents - is that about right?
Also heard that the second session should be much better - hope that's true.
You'll have to let us know when you've been

All i'd say was dont bend over backwards to make the briefing session if for any reason its inconvenient or simply that you just dont want to waste your evening. Have a glance through your EYFS pack at home and you'll pretty much be doing what the session covers

OK then why don't they just send out the sheets and save their time and our time.
I'd prefer that as would plenty of others

I was a bit miffed as to 4 and 5 year olds learning about the Tsunami too. I thought it was maybe a bit much for them to take on board but the kids were actually very clued up to it. Dont know that I personally would want to do a theme in my setting about something that was such a horrible disaster though, I much prefer happy, jolly themes. But its all about the EYFS and teaching children about the world and EVERYTHING in it.

I'm all for children learning about the world but I don't think Tsunami for under fives is necessary.
I don't think I'll be doing that

I've just been to our briefing session, it wasn't too bad but then different areas will do things different I suppose! Their groups are no more than about 25. They are identifying wether people are childminders, schools or day care settings and trying to get them into groups together. They then ran through the pack and how it works, spoke about training needs etc and then got us all to discuss in our groups what training needs we though we may have so that they can then assess what is needed! Made it all sound reasonable and workable actually! Sorry your session was so dire, hope not too many are that bad!
