Hi guys, As I'm so inundated with great resources from you all (thanks ;D), I really need to get my planning folder in order. I will be inspected before Christmas so wondered how you all set your plans out in order to show an inspector. Do you have short, medium and long term plans / plans for each topic or is it less formal than that. I think that this is the first thing I need to get my head around so I can organise my thoughts before my first mindee starts next week.
Hope I haven't rambled on too much - any advice gratefully received!

What I do is find a theme related to the time of the year, season, multicultural happening, weather, children's current interests etc and plan for it. The girls I look after love colouring and drawing, so I make them a little A5 booklet related to the theme (Google images xxx colouring/coloring always brings up relevant stuff). I use the booklet for counting, shape and colour recognition etc - it's not a workbook, it follows their interests! If they didn't like colouring I'd plan it another way I think about related outings eg fish = pond to feed ducks; fish tank at Waterstones; fish shop to look at what we can eat I put it together on an individual planning form with these sections - children's interests / my planning ideas / resources needed / outings / links to learning and development / how it went...... I do not stick rigidly to plans.... the best laid planning is thwarted by children being sick / not wanting to follow it through It takes me about half an hour each month to put the overall structure in place, then I do the rest through the days when I have observed how something went, tweaking as I go Hope this helps! hiya mel
well at the nursery i am at we have one of the big arch folders and we have dividers in there with all the months on starting at each academic year, but as you go get your first children next week you start you dividers on august. then we put our long term planning at the front, and them behind each months divider will put the short term planner and medium term planners.
we have a different theme each month, we used to only have theames in the pre-school room, but now we have a hole nursery theme.
also i dont no if its been mentioned but at our setting with the medium term planners we highligh the activiites in which we have done and if we think of a different activity we right it ont he medium term planner in a different colour then highlight it, this shows that it is a continuos working document, offstead like this apparently.
hope this helps you bex xxxx
