Can anyone give me a definitive answer on the difference between Holistic and Heuristic play? Every piece of information I find seems to give conflicting advice? Thanks Amanda xx

Well, Holistic education is described: Holistic education is based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the community, to the natural world, and to spiritual values such as compassion and peace. Holistic education aims to call forth from people an intrinsic reverence for life and a passionate love of learning. This is done, not through an academic "curriculum" that condenses the world into instructional packages, but through direct engagement with the environment. Holistic education nurtures a sense of wonder.Heuristic means "to discover" so I would say they were the same thing.

Ok - hope I make sense! V. basically holistic is where for exapmle you are baking a cake and instead of it just being baking your doing science (what happens when me put this in the oven? - it changes from liquid to solid, maths for the weighing etc, all at the same time! Heuristic is an extension of treasure baskets and not tell you how to play toys! Personally I think that it's all just fancy words - use as you please as nobody agrees on what they men anyway!!!
