I have finally finished my accounts for 06/07!
Was in the process of registering to do the self assesment online and it asked me for my unique tax number which can be found on my paper tax return.
HELP..............
I've lost it.
Have looked all over but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know what I should do? I think i'll call them tomorrow and see if they will give it me over the phone.

I think that if you phone them and give them your National Insurance number and other personal i.d. info. they will be able to help you.
I lost some information for this a couple of years ago and they had to send it to me through the post but not sure if it was that number or what it was but they were very helpful.
Must happen a lot!

Hi there,
I did my first tax return a few mths ago - and like you it asked for URN (unique ref no) - I couldn't find it anywhere on the paperwork. I called them up, and they didn't know - gave me another number to call - and it went on!
In the end, I just completed it manually and posted it off!
I seem to remember it having to do with it being the first one (memory not my strongest point!)
Hope this helps, maybe best to just send it off this year.

thanks for the replies.
I've completely lost all paperwork,so I can't just fill it in manually and post it off.

My UTR number was on the original letter HMRC sent me to confirm I had registered as SE. I am sure they should be able to give it to you if you give them a call.

You just give them a ring and they will give you the no all you have to do as one of the other messages says is to give your national insurance no in i worked for the inland revenue many years ago . Linx
