i'm taking my driving test an theory test soon. Is it possible to claim this on my accounts, driving is going to help me with my childminding because it'll mean i can take the children out for day trip (i live in a village and cant get anywhere without a car!)
Is this allowed?

No harm trying! I don't drive at the mo but will be interesting if you could find out! Your mindee's will definatly benifit from it, but unsure of the answer for that one. Keep us posted!

you could say you need to drive to - access training (none of the training courses, eg first aid, I've been offered have been on a bus route!) - collect/take mindees to schools/preschools (not being able to drive could lose you business if you can't access any schools) - take mindees to libraries, museums, parks, toddlers etc, its a requirement to provide appropriate experiences - make purchases for your business (food, toys, equipment)
They might have an answer as to why you can't claim (eg they say the 40p per mile covers most car-related expenses) but it never hurts to ask. I never thought to ask when I passed my test (I too wanted to be mobile for my business). And if they say you CAN claim, make sure you get the name of the person you spoke to, always make a note of the date & time of telephone calls - you can then ensure you claim cost of the telephone call too!
Good luck with your tests!

It would be great if you could but I suspect the answer will be no.
You can only claim allowances that are solely relevant to childminding so technically you could only drive when you have minded children in the car (and for their purpose/outings etc) and not when you are not working!!!

You can only do this if you havea deisgnated car ONLY for minding with and do not use it at any other time. Hubby ( accoutnant) is always moaning at me in the supermarkets carpark as he sees many many work svehicles being used out of work and getting right annoyed as they are clients of his who swear the car/van is only used for work
