I got mine yesterday. Leaving that panic at the back of my mind until after Ofsted inspection! Plan to do it online also. My accounts are actually non existent at the moment - lots of catching up to do!
Have got copies of all invoices and receipts are all together, hubby will have to help with utility bills - thats his domain!

Hi Everyone,
I got my Tax Return this morning. This is my first one and it looks mind blowing. My sister who's a Childminder said she will help me thank goodness.

Hi all
Me too. Mine arrived today and I will do it online as I have done for the last 3 years.
In previous years I've done it by end of Sept as the tax credit people need the details by then so it gets it out of the way.
Last year though I was late (29th January I think) and had the added trauma of discovering I'd just gone (very slightly) into the next earnings bracket and had to pay next years tax on account and I hadn't planned for that - silly me.
Apart from that bit of silliness I do think that filing online is pretty foolproof.

Must admit I am very BAD when it comes to my accounts.
I know everybody has the same problem but my accounts always get put on the back burner as I have too much paperwork and struggle to keep up with it and never seem to find the time to do my accounts.
The only organisation I manage is that all my receipts are put in to a box. I have 12 individual plastic sleeves - one for each month and just slip the receipts in which keeps them in month order. I don't even work out what is claimable and was isn't.
To give you an idea how bad I am I filed 2005/2006 at 3.47pm on January 31st this year only making the deadline by a few hours.
I have promised myself I won't let it get too bad this year and try to get the return in by end of September.
I would be interested to know what everybody else does and give me ideas on how I can make my life easier!!
Thanks
Dee

Oh Dee!! I just have to have mine done and out of the way by the end of April or I would worry that I would forget!! I must admit though that the bookkeeping is the hardest bit, like you it gets left sometimes. I do my accounts on a spreadsheet but during the year I just note on a weekly printed sheet I made, who paid what and what I bought if I worked full time or part time (for the gas and electric etc. calculations). Sometimes though I forget and a few weeks pass before I write it down! Then at the end of the year it's just (LOL!) a matter of transferring the figures to the spreadsheet and letting it do the calculations.

The trouble is Pauline is that although I have Excel on my computer I was never taught how to use it and you know what it is like you think it will take ages to learn so I never did On the last set of accounts I spent just over an hour trying to find a missing 6p - boy was I frustrated and nearly ended up bald!! I made the decision that the next set of accounts wouldn't get as bad so I bit the bullet (expecting Excel to be hard) and sat and did a tutorial which I downloaded from the internet. I have to say I felt such a fool - it is so easy and simple to do if I had tried to muddle along with the spreadsheet I probably would have worked it out eventually but never mind it's done now!! I am in the process of setting up all the necessary sheets so that I can log in the weekly, monthly and Annual expenses and then let the computer do all the calculations for me instead of me sitting like an idiot for hours on end with a calculator. ;D ;D We all live and learn!!! Well done - go for it girl!!
I think remembering the formula for calculations was the hardest but after writing them down rather than search the help pages everytime, it was easy.
I keep a basic template, then all I have to do each year is fill it in, no need to re write the whole thing.
