Today the children and I have been enjoying a rare dry day and have been on a butterfly search. The kids loved it and I thought we could do a butterfly themed craft activity but my mind has gone blank. Does anyone have any butterfly craft activities they could share with me? Emler x

I tell you what - this doesn't answer your question in any way by the way! - I was only thinking yesterday that I have not seen one butterfly yet this year here in Cambridge!
Last year we were watching them in the garden but this year there haven't been any!
Mystery!
Ooh ooh ooh - just thought of one! How about making butterfly masks, just cut the shapes out and paint them, put some glitter on, put them on sticks and use them as masks or maybe butterfly puppets?

Thanks everyone! I think tomorrow we will try to make butterfly masks as Lorri suggested. Thank you for your ideas - I seem to be all out of imaginative ideas at the moment. We seem to have done so many craft activities lately because of the horrendous weather, that my mind has just gone blank! It happens often ha!ha!

I've just found this action poem too which I think is quite good - I'm trying to find things for different themes for me as well so this has been really handy!
Finger Play
Roly-Poly Caterpillar
Roly-poly caterpillar (wiggle right pointer finger) Into a corner crept, (place right pointer finger in left cupped hand) Spun around himself a blanket (spin around) Then for a long time slept. (place head on folded hands) Roly-poly caterpillar (wiggle right pointer finger) Wakening by and by, ("stretch" right pointer finger) Found himself with beautiful wings, Changed to a butterfly. (flutter arms like wings)
(That's it! I'm done with butterflies now!)
