Thought this was a really nice cheap gift if you want the children to do one for their parents it is a nice keepsake too! Or you could even make one yourself for someone special.
To make this gift you'll need: Small plain boxes- Small gift boxes or Jewelry boxes work very well. Glitter, sequins or any ornamentation. Red Ribbon
Printed poem, on good paper if possible.
This is a very special gift That you can never see. The reason it's so special is, It's just for you from me. Whenever you are happy, or even feeling blue. You only have to hold this gift and know I think of you.
You never can unwrap it Please leave the ribbon tied. Just hold the box close to your heart, It's filled with love inside.
Have your child decorate the boxes in anyway she/he pleases. Add ribbon and the poem with the signature.

Hi Angel,
What a wonderful gift idea.
When you say a plain box what sort of size and do you put the poem on the top of the box with ribbon?
Thanks

I suppose it should be fairly small if the parent/recipient is going to save it. If the children were old enough they could perhaps make their own box using Origami or a template with some help. I'm sure I've got a website link somewhere to box making - I'll have a look and post it if I can find it. This is a fantastic resource for helping children with their emotional development, being able to talk about love and caring while making these gifts and being able to discuss how it makes them feel and how it might make others feel. I love activities that encourage empathy.

Hi Shell
You can use any size box that you want , some of my children have used a empty after eight box but most of the time we tend to use something smaller, then we cover the box with some nice paper and a nice bow then put the poem on some nice paper folded or rolled up on the top, the idea is not to open the box or bow
The webiste that Pauline gave is really good , just let the children use whatever shape or size they want , they usually have different ideas

I'll let you know when we've done it - any ideas for boxes would be great!

This is a lovely idea thanks Angel
Our local resource centre has a template for a small box and cuts them out of scrap card for you so this might be worth checking out if you have a resource centre near you
Cheers
