An activity that can get older children working together and having fun - Get them to make their own newspaper. Provide them with large sheets of paper for the actual newspaper pages and smaller sheets for their articles which can be cut and pasted on to the 'newspaper'. Encourage them to think how newspapers are laid out, look at your local free papers for ideas, they could work on one project each or in groups. Things to include could be: A fun title a weather page a contents page what's on at my Childminders today! Things to do in the area, where to go what to see Get them to draw pictures where the photos would be This could work over several days with children bringing new ideas each day. Stories could be true or made up - older children enjoy thinking up the headlines and stories - "mum, 42, tinkz txt msgz R hard 2 transl8 " is one I remember by an 11 year old who obviously knew her mums way of thinking. So as not to leave the little ones out they could be encouraged to add pictures or be 'interviewed' by one of your budding journalists and their thoughts added to the newspaper.
