Eid ul Fitr often abbreviated as simply Eid, is an Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. 'Fitr' means to break and therefore signifies the breaking of the fasting period. It is a show of joy at attaining spiritual prosperity after a month of fasting. The holy month of Ramadan which culminates into the festival of Eid unites all Muslims in fasting, feasting, worship and prayer. It is a time for contemplation, spirituality, peace and brotherhood. Muslim visit the homes of relatives and friends to celebrate and to thank God for all their blessings.
