Welcome to the forum
Are you just the owner of the website you are telling us about or are you a childminder or babysitter?
I have just received your email and I have had a quick browse at your website It does look good but it does also look like it is just for people wanting a babysitter?
It does not really say " Childminders " on your website only " Babysitter "
I am sure there are many childminders on here like myself who do not want to be known as just a " Babysitter" because that is what we are not !!!
Babysitter and Childminder are not the same and I would like to ask you how you explain this if any one from this forum were to register ?
Thankyou
Angel xx

I agree with Angel, we really are more than Babysitters! Also, a condition of advertising on here is that you do have a link to the Childminding Forum on your website BEFORE, adding your site. It is clearly explained on the page. While we have no objection to you advertising please would you add a link to us on your site. I will remove your ad in the meantime but once the link is added then you are welcome to re-advertise. Thanks in advance.

Apologies - I see the link, hard to see without the logo, it looks like part of another advert.

Hi
I am sorry but I have to agree with both Angel and Pauline - I consider myself much more than a 'babysitter' and I would imagine that there are more than a few people on this site who feels the same.

I actually registered on the site - and not as a 'babysitter' as a 'childminder' I did it to try and get some overnight places filled, You have the options available to register all your qualifications etc on there. I know how horrid it is when parents think we are just babysitters but the fact that the site is displaying your qualifications and experience, parents can see what sort of people are on there. I thought it might be a good way to generate some overnight business anyway, I have had one enquiry but it was from someone living in Bath which is far too far for me. Im not saying that everyone will want to be registered on here but I dont think the person who posted it meant it to be that we are just babysitters, only cos some of you sounded a bit cheesed off. and I think they have hit a raw nerve ( I hate people not recognising what we do either!) Makes no odds to me though - if you offer overnight care however, I thought It may be quite a good way to get interest from parents who require occassional care and who are looking for someone who does have qualifications to do it - You can charge good rates too! Just thought that I'd say this as there have been some posts form newer members who are having problems getting any work and its always worthwhile advertising wherever you can. At the end of the day you can say 'no' to anything you dont want to do and you may even turn up something good from it. xxxx

Yes you are right lana that the term babysitters did hit a raw nerve certainly with me if not with others.
However I do see you side of the debate and appreciate what you say and agree that it could be a good way to fill vacancies (if only on part time basis) for those who are struggling.

I think it is a great little site if used for babysitting
I do see where you are coming from and yes it could be handy for new childminders here who are having probs getting any work
There are some great babysitters out there too I have done babysitting myself when much younger and so have my daughters In actual fact some babysitters charge more than a childminder so lucky them ha
I just think there should be a section on the site for childminders because we are so much more than just a babysitter !!!
It is a shame really that mirefoot only used the forum to advertise
I would have liked to have heard her views on this

I agree with people registering just to advertise without even really saying 'hi' is a bit rude.
Just thought it was worth a mention as like I said I have had an enquiry from the site, just a shame I couldn't do it. It was for friday sleepovers which would have been ideal as Richard works a friday night anyway. But maybe others could get lucky with some regular care.

I decided to let the thread run for a little while as it would have probably sounded like a bit of a whinge if I had stuck my oar in.
MissMolly was born out of the frustration of not knowing who to turn to as a parent when it came to care for our two children who are 6 and 9.
Often in the past the people who we have turned to have become not only babysitters but great friends to us and our children and in one case looked after our children for 2 weeks as we had to got to Australia to look after my Father in Law who is growing older by the day.
I recognise the major distinction between the roles of babysitting and child care. To start with is the major commitment to training and on going registration not to mention the actual job itself.
MissMolly hopes to 'recruit' registrations from people such as yourselves who have the skills, the dedication and the references and experience to be valuable members of the MissMolly team.
When you register on MissMolly you have the opportunity to build and maintain your profile with as much or as little information as you wish. But you are asked specifically about CRB checks and qualifications. There is a sample profile on the site which is an anonomised (I can't spell!!) true profile of one of the registered MissMolly members. This profile is available from the front page.
I am delighted that the posting I made, obviously slightly tongue in cheek, has generated this thread and I hope that I have explained in as short a way as possible the ethos behind the site.
I am still a parent and I still have problems with child care. I am an airline pilot and my wife is a busy person who is often sole carer for up to 9 days at a time. I know only too well the limitations of the 'babysitter' compared to the boundless ability of the registered and experienced 'childminder'.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain and I hope, if you have the extra time to fill, that you might join MissMolly and keep the already very high percentage of skills at that level.
There is a contact form on the website for any other questions or obviously contact me through the forum. I don't publicise the email for Spam reasons, we take security of information (data) very seriously on the site.

Mirefoot ( Just what is your name ?)
I only wish you would have explained all this in the first place
It looked like we were "having a go at you" when in actual fact we were not
I am sure that everyone will agree when we say we stand by what we say but it would have been better had you have explained all this in the first place
We are very defensive about our work as you have found out
A lot of people were using this site just to advertise their business and this forum is based on so much more than that Pauline our " friend " is the one who took time to start this childminding forum for us so we do not want it taken over with advertising if you see what we mean
It is really nice of you to explain though it makes us all understand so much more just what your site is all about Maybe we will be less judgmental now we know?
I for one will take another look at it

Angel, my name is Eldred! Old Anglo Saxon etc etc.
Thank you for your comments, I am sorry I hadn't made a better post in the first place.
Although I suppose if I had it could have been declared as a blatant advert if I had gone into the why's and wherefores.
Also, accidentaly, but very usefully it has meant that I get a better understanding of the forum and how it works. To understand better the people we built the site for makes it all the easier to get it right. Probably not the first or even the second time, but may be by the third!
I hope I can get it right. From a parents point of view, the more knowledge of the experience and skills available in my own area the better.
Bizarely, although I live in Cumbria and have made a more targeted approach to skilled childminders in this area, the majority so far have been more than 100 miles from my home! Typical!
It is a steep learning curve, and I'm sticking with it.
Hope to hear about succesful MissMolly introductions soon. If I can work out how to get my profile to send me an email when there are postings on this thread that is!
Thanks again
Mirefoot! (Eldred)

Hi Eldred
I'm really pleased you came back to explain, I've really no objection to advertising that is relevant to childminding but it is nice to know a bit of background to help us understand.
all the best Pauline
