Hiya
We want a staffy puppy. Do you think this would put prospective families off?
Thanks

hi andrea, i live in stoke on trent and there are a lot of staffy dogs here (obviously lol) and so far every staffy i've met are lovely licky friendly dogs (but chew most things) i do think a lot of people don't understand just how lovely they are because they look like pit bulls etc. If i were you i'd ask the parents that you've already got to get some opinions. I personally think it may put some people off unless you can prove to them that either the dog will be seperate from the kids or that your dog really is gentle and won't be left alone etc. It's a shame they've got such a bad rep as i love them.

I have always had staffies and would trust them over many other breeds (obviously not completely though) but people are put off by the resemblance to pitbulls. This is a shame because they are one of the friendliest, even tempered breeds around. Though i love them, i would probably be put off if my potential childminder had one. The risk is just too high if they did turn on a child then the outcome would be far worse than if you had a chihuahua or other tiny breed.
We really want a puppy too but i will be buying a shih tzu as i know they are fantastic with kids and not scary to parents!!
Sorry I know this doesn't actually help you at all.

Oh I adore shih tzus - will you post a photo of your puppy on here when you get it please!!
They're just so gorgeous! We always had them when I was growing up and they all had really lovely personalities. We did have one that used to 'get you' if you accidentally stood on his foot or touch his face but that was because mum rescued him and he'd been very badly mistreated before. Bless his heart.
We had Ming, Chan, Rupert and Jade! Rupert was rescued too and he was quite old when we got him so we couldn't rename him to something oriental! He'd been a stud dog and was just stuck at the bottom of the yard in a cage and brought out to do his job and that was all! He didn't know how to play or relax until we got him.
Lucky you though! I'd love one!

i have a dog at the moment he is a sausage dog and the kids love him but i wouldn't trust him he can get a little bit moany on time .I also have had a staff when my own children were baby's and he was great with the kids ,its because when silly people would make staffs fight they would bring them home in the prams of small children who would hold and pat there fighting wounds for them so over time the breed got to know children were fine it was the adult who they hated as these were the ones that made them fight .i read this somewhere many years ago .
