Hi all. I was just wondering if having people to stay was ok? My husband's family live quite a way away and occasionally come to stay for a few nights. In the near future my brother and sister in law will be visiting over a weekend, arriving on a Thursday night. They'll be out and about on the Friday so won't be around much so do I just need them to sign the visitors book? Thanks in advance!

With one-off visits you just need to make sure mindees are not left unattended with any of your visitors. If you have a visitors book they should sign it, I would think. I don't have a visitors book, myself but I do tell parents verbally.
It is a requirement to have a CRB check for any REGULAR visitors. But i've seen nothing to tell us how often is considered "regular" - some might consider an annual visit at xmas is regular, another opinion might be that it needs to be every week or fortnight to be regular (eg cleaner).

I have various family members come to stay for anything up to 3 weeks (my family live far away too) and when I checked with OFSTED, they said that is fine - anything over 4 weeks apparently and you should get a CRB check for that person and for regular visitors.
Good advice already given - make sure that children aren't left unattended with your visitors, let the parents know about your visitors, sign the visitor book etc, introduce the children, let your visitors know what they can and can't do concerning the children(ie/ they can't take them to the toilet, change a nappy etc) this is for their safety as well as yours and the children.
