What did I do today?
Today I left some dishes dirty. The bed got made around 3:30. The clothes soaked a bit longer. The odour grew a lot stronger. The crumbs I spilled the day before. Are staring at me from the floor. The fingerprints there on the wall. Will likely be there still next fall. The dirty streaks on those window panes. Will still be there the next time it rains.
Shame on you, you sit and say, Just what did you do today?
I held a baby till he slept. I held a toddler while he wept. I played a game of hide and seek. I squeezed a toy so it would squeak. I pulled a wagon, sang a song. Taught a child right from wrong. What did I do this whole day through? Not much that shows, I guess that's true. Unless you think what I have done. Might be important to someone. With all these children for whom I care. If that is true, I've done my share!

haha I get those sort of comments all the time
Someone said to me the other day " you can not really call what you do a proper job " what a cheek if only people knew just what we did do
Oh well at least we all know we have "proper jobs" and can support each other

I thought the rhyme was lovely too !!

that is absolutely brilliant and soooo true. by the end of the day I feel like i've been working on a farm all day! Nothing like sitting and drinking cups of coffee all day, like some people think we do!

It's lovely Angel And those folk can keep their "proper" jobs if it means sitting on a crowded bus, train or in a traffic jam to get there. We can just get out of bed and be at work!

I love this rhyme.
I get so cross when my mother-in-law keeps saying to me "Shouldn't you get a proper job now the kids are older" or "Hows the babysitting going".
I have been a childminder for 17 years and she still says it!!!

Heres 1 for you Angelhope you like it ....
Although I'm not their mother I care for them each day. I cuddle, sing and read to them and watch them as they play. I see each new accomplishment, I help them grow and learn. I understand their language I listen with concern. They come to me for comfort, and I kiss away their tears. They proudly show their work to me, I give them the loudest cheers! No, I am not their mother, but my role is just as strong. I nurture them and keep them safe, though maybe not for long. I know someday the time may come when I will have to part, but I know each child I care for is forever in my heart!

Hi
The rhymes are brilliant.
I am starting to get really cheesed off with people thinking that I am only going into childminding because I am getting too old to get a 'proper' job or that all I will be doing all day is sitting around watching telly and drinking cups of tea! It's a good thing that I am not going into this with my eyes completely shut or i might start believing them. Maybe I should show them this forum.
