Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I was given a good idea at the weekend of making some sensory socks for babies.
buy a load of baby socks, fill them up with beads, cotton wool, etc. sew the tops and put them in a sack for babies and toddlers to explore.
Could anyone come up with some good ideas of what I could put inside the socks.
thanks Elaine XXX

That's a fab idea Elaine! Thank you for putting your message on. I've got a 7 month old starting tomorrow afternoon, just for 2 afternoons a week, but that would be brilliant for him as he's not moving around that much at the moment but he's quite inquisitive! Guess I'll be sewing my son's socks up tonight! Ha ha! Lorri x

That is a really good idea. I don't have any babies to care for at the moment but its definately something I will think about if I do get any babies in the future!

Thats a really nice idea!
I have done something similar with small pop bottles. put pasta, feathers, pom poms, small bells, art confetti. Just super glue the lids. They can be used to play skittles.
I love the sock idea so they can really have a good feel of whats inside. Get all them odd socks out!!!!! Sensory toys can be so dear in shops- NO NEED!!!!!

off the top of my head - pine cones? cardboard square? some old wires - ummmm like a TV aerial cable or something? wooden building blocks? Duplo?
You could sew big buttons on to the outside?
or for older ones, things like a wooden spoon, a toy car, a doll, stuff they have to swork out what it is in the (very long!!) sock
probably all rubbish ideas there!

With XMas coming up, I am sure we will all have a glut of sweetie wrappers that are nice and crinkly sounding, they would be good - I already got some stashed away, but only as I broke open a box of terry's choc orange segments, and had to hide the wrappers quick LMAO

I've done this a couple of times over the years with the socks whose partners go AWOL from the washing machine. Now why does that happen ? Answers once again on a Post Card Please. Go one further. I use lavender, vanilla sticks, cloves, Anise Stars, Cumin seeds, rosemary, thyme and other smells I perfume the socks from the essenses in the cooking section of the supermarkets. Just don't use peppermint as it can leave a hot feeling on your skin if put against your face, nose, eyes etc! Also not a good idea to use Kidney Beans (not only for the hazard of choking) but if eaten raw are poisonous! (Only mention this as it is new info to me) If you have a grown up sock. ( A big one ) I use mine to put objects into for a memory game. If we forget an Item you can feel the sock to 'find out' what it was.

I justg have the one so far, with allsorts of stuff in it!
old cd/dvd, old mobile phone, old remote, empty yogurt pot, pastry brush, a circle of rubber material used as a grip to open jars for old people lol, a ruler, an empty cotton bud container, a flannel, can't remember the rest, will have to dig it out.
I'm going to do one of just different kitchen stuff, one of different brushes, and one of materials

i think the original idea for treasure baskets was to only use natural materials but i think kids these days are so used to synthetic that anything goes. i have put in a toothbrush a sponge a nail brush a plug chain a little purse and some fabric but i am going to refresh it now i have another little baby
