How would you guys ensure you could accomodate a child with special needs/disabilities. I live in an upstairs flat so know I am fairly limited to what i can accomodate but im just looking for ways and means I can change or adjust so a child could be included into my setting.
Thanks in advance for your help

A child with disabilities does not only mean physical - you may indeed be unable to accommodate a wheelchair user. But think about a child with Autism, Adhd, learning delays, medical conditions such a diabetes or colostomy bag, downs syndrome deaf or partially sighted etc etc I bet with some training (Portage) you could include their unique selves and special needs into your setting.

I was looking to answer this question the other day for something I am writing.... I came up with this document which I have adapted for my use - 213.210.8.133/images/pdf/LPN/Access%20Audit%20for%20Childminders%20Final.docIf that doesn't work, Google 'access audit Leeds' and it will be there! It doesn't include some of the things I was thinking about eg there isn't much about hearing loss, adhd etc but in the main it's a good document for making you think about what you do and how you can adapt your setting to make it more 'disability friendly' Another good document is 'All of us' an inclusion checklist for settings - available from here www.surestart.gov.uk/publications/?Document=1479Sarahx

The two sites were really good. Any others you could direct me to regarding Equality and Diversity - Early Years Foundation Degree Research - really appreciate any guidance, help or comments.
