Hi have a 13 year old boy and his 10 year old sister as well as my usual 2 under 5s tomorrow the 10 year old will do anythimg but the 13 year old boy is very hard to find something for him to do i.ve tried games, art, clay, cooking, i only have a small garden so not really room for him to play football.
He does like going on the computer but i usually time limit that
He hasn't a lot of patience with little ones where as his sister loves playing with them
Any ideas?

Have you asked him what he would like to do? How about some cooking or baking, science experiments always seem to go down a treat. Have you got a childrens center near you or a leisure center with a track, footie goals etc. Is there any other children of a similar age he could spend a bit of time with. Make a bargin with him, he spends a bit of time in doing some group activities (crafts etc) and you can reserve a bit of special time for him doing ? I am lucky that I have two 10 year olds who are good friends and they are great with the younger ones and are very easy going.

Hi Angela
I agree with Vik
Some boys of that age though are very hard to keep happy
Is he only with you for the one day or the whole week ? If he is with you for the whole week maybe you could ask him for some ideas - with in reason of course ha
Good luck

Yes i have asked him what he likes, he likes lego, tv and computer i have some lego but not the advanced stuff he has at home he likes a huge amount like he has at home, he does sometimes do cooking here i do try getting him to join in then he can go on the computer i do offer to play games with him i have some older games including likes of battleship, We don't have a children's centre. They are the only ones on half term as they go to private schools the other schools are off next week. I have taken him to the park before he finds it boring having nobody else his age to play with.
I have taken them swimmimg in the past but its still school term at the moment so its only open to the public at lunchtime when i have to feed the others and get 3 yearold to nursery

He's with me Monday and maybe Wednesday and Thursday i will know tomorrow.
We do a school drop off lunch time then we sometimes go into town and maybe go in a cafe for a milk shake they usually enjoy that
If i have them Thursday i don't have the little ones so i can take them swimmimg lunchtime as i will have no school drop offs.
I know he is a hard age he would be happy on the computer all day
Thanks

I know what you mean I mind a 10 year old sometimes - 10 going on 16 he is really hard to keep happy He would be happy to play on the computer all day or to go and play with his mates
He does not do any of those things when at my house
Maybe you get get him helping the younger ones with some halloween activities
Making spiders and doing some cooking Maybe you could have a very small tea party at lunch time one of the days - get him to think of some ideas Give him a note book and pen and ask him if he could help you
Good luck

Have you got a toy library near you? Perhaps you could borrow some stuff.
Could you let him bring some bits from home?
How about seeing if you could let him out to play with some friends for a while or letting him have a friend round for a couple of hours (discuss with parents)
Get him to design and help you with stuff for Halloween (perhaps an impromptu Halloween party), safety surrounding bonfire night and fireworks (crafts, etc).
Get him to show the younger ones (and you) stuff on the computer (get him to find safety stuff relating to the above or Halloween), set him a "project".
Like I say I am quite lucky with my 10 year olds, when my son was away, the mindee was bored with just the little ones so I invited a couple of his (and my sons) friends around for a couple of hours - they went out to play and then came and played in the garden.
How about a "sports day". Nature hunt, river trail, treasure hunt etc.
Failing all that talk with the parents for suggestions or ask him what he want to do.
