Hi Angle (ha ha!) I have read the whole thing - was starting to get cheesed off to begin with but it ended up really positive. (Can't see how a child got more than a dozen bites while it's childminder was in toilet though! ) Nice to hear something positive about childminders, pity it had to be written with negatives first though. Yep I agree Lorri
Yes I was amazed at the number of bites too Kids biting can happen anywhere though not just with a childminder Annoyed me
But yes was positive in the end which does make a nice change

Does make a change doesn't it. Saying that a few months ago I had a child that scratched another childs face while I popped to the toilet I couldn't believe his face when I saw it.
Luckly the parents were fine about it thankfully.

Parents DO need to ensure that they throughly research ANY childcare provision. I would say at a (sad) guess that not many parents know what questions to ask, what to look at or what should be shown to them etc. And how many parents really bother to read the policies and documents shown/given to them (my mindees mum goes through everything with a fine tooth comb bless her).
Too many parents choose a childcarer (or provision) on a whim, speed because they are starting work next week and have left it so late or a recommendation (which is great) but parents really do need to make sure all parties' gel together and the setting and people are trained and adequate and the RIGHT one for them and the child.
It infuriates me the amount of people who "plonk" their children at the nearest/cheapest place and ASSUME everything is in order.
NCMA need to get on top of this bad press and let people know that (many) childminders are now highly trained, dedicated professionals who are inspected and graded reguarly. They need to get the info out there to parents to let parents know what they should be asking, looking for and at, what childminders should have in place etc.
Its great directing people to the surestart site but some people aren't on the net, some don't have a CC near them, etc.

I think that article was a refreshing change- actually having someone talk honestly and positively about childminders. Accidents are bound to happen, I have to agree it was a lot of bites- maybe childminder needs som laxatives!!! sorry!!!!!

Ha, ha Jo - I had that thought myself.
It was a reasonably positive article though given the story it was covering

Isabelle bit one of my mindees yesterday when I popped to the toilet. She has never done it before and I was mortified. I left the door open so I could hear them and all of a sudden he just started wailing for all he was worth. Quickly got out the loo and Izzy was hysterical saying 'I didnt do it, I didnt do it'..... little fibber! Its was a little bite on his finger. Kids are so quick when you turn your back, I just hope they come back on monday, mum was fine about it though.
I find that 12 bites would have been excessive if she really had only popped to the toilet!!
Still, at least its not a totally negative article on childminders for a change!
