I had a lady ring this evening looking for a childminder to help out her daughter thats just had a baby.
Conversation was a bit confusing but what i could make out it would be looking after a 2 and 4 year old for a couple of days a week. Asked about nursery for the 4 year old and it wasnt the school that my children go to so said couldnt do it, she said 4 year old goes in afternoon so would sort out someone else to collect. She said I would also have to collect as mum couldnt go out.
I think its only going to be short term until mum gets back on her feet so what would everyone charge.
I said I would still have to ring mum (which im doing tomorrow)and visit to go through contract even though short term.
Any ideas on charges?
Sarah

I know it's not much help but I think you will have to play it by ear until you have spoken to the Person you are dealing with. Don't made any rash decisions, have a chat, tell her you will go home check with other commitments and see if you can accommodate her request. (this gives you some leeway to make up your mind) you can then tell her your decision

I'm not sure - I think I'd just charge my normal rate, so long as it fitted in with what I was already doing....it's like collecting from school I suppose... you charge from when you leave the house to when you get back Maybe her daughter is sick or disabled...? It would be good practice for you to do a home visit and take all your forms and stuff with you I wouldn't do a contract immediately though, I'd come away and have a good think about what I was taking on... you'll get attached to the children, there's continuity and observations/assessments to consider and you'll need to be very clear on timing fitting in with you ie not taking children home when you're meant to be cooking tea Good luck!
