Hi Tracy
I live in Weybridge.
My hourly rate is all in which means that I do not charge any extra for food, snacks, drinks, suncream, toddler groups, activities/outings etc. The only things I ask the parents to supply is nappies and some wet wipes.
Some minders in my area do charge for extra's and some don't. Some minders even charge up to £6.50 plus extra's which I can't believe that they are getting away with it but I think that it is all down to supply and demand because there are very few minders with vacancies in my area and I have to turn away at least 2-3 parents a week who are desperately trying to find childcare so they will pay almost anything.
Also I think that it is because we have such a high population of parents that work and commute to London with high powered jobs and that kind of money doesn't really mean a lot to them.
Even though there are minders charging higher rates than me I stick to that rate as I am happy and feel that the parents are paying me enough as it is.
Have you looked at your local CIS? some minders do put their hourly rates on the advert and they usually state if there are any additional costs/charges.

Dee,
I'm moving to your area. We have too many childminders and not enough children!!!!
I charge extra for meals, but it is a personal choice

When are you coming Tasha? - lol!!!
yes you are right Tasha it is personal choice and I would never say that it is right or wrong. The reason I feel that I do not have to charge for any extras is because I am happy with the money that I earn.
I look after 3 children from 7.15am -6.00pm (times do vary for each child) and I work 4 days a week. I did used to work five days but only had 1 child on a Friday and he has just left me so I have decided to have Fridays off to catch up with paperwork, housework and catch up with a few friends.
Sorry, I digress - what I am trying to say is that if you work it out at £5.00 per hour per child you will see that I am earning a considerable sum of money and yes I could ask for more but then I wouldn't be benefiting as I would have to pay more tax - so it is swings and roundabouts!!
My only advice to anyone is to charge and do what you are happy with otherwise you will end up resenting the job and families that you care for.

Because of the lack of children and the amount of CM's I only have 1 - Most do, infact most parent's won't consider you if you already have 2 mindees, so I have to base my fees on that!!!! I know what you mean re tax though!!!!
