As from sept I am going to be starting my NVQ 3. Sure start in my area have starting funding for this and as its meant to cost £1150 for the course I thought I couldn't say no. Also Im doing a home based one, so it means no college to go to but I have someone come out to me instead on a reg basis to help me out. I just hope it's not too hard!

Hi
I don't blame you for taking the opportunity as eventually we all would have had to have done something on those lines anyway and eventually the bursary funds will run out so you might as well take advantage if you can.
I wanted to do the NVQ3 and was considering starting it last September as we also get a high bursary in my area but due to other committments I knew that I wouldn't be able to commit the time needed - will consider doint it this year.
Good luck with it and don't forget to let us know how you get on.
Dee

I hope to be doing mine in September too - we can be study buddies lol! I have to wait for our Training newsletter before I can apply - should be out soon. I am going to apply to the transformation fund for funding. I have also been told to make it clear I want an assessor for childminders as not all the assessors are experienced with the difference between a childmminding setting & a nursery!

NVQ 3

Post by ajs on Jun 18, 2007 15:15:53 GMT
hi the tutor from a local college came round to talk about the course with me. she arrived at 4 when all the after school kids had arrived, the house was in chaos, my 16 year old son had 6 friends here all playing loud music and drinking beer, as she arrived all the kids who i'd put into the garden so we could talk came running in as the heavens opened and then the cat brought in a baby bird with it's guts hanging out then to top it all the humid weather brought on a migraine so i couldn't concentrate on anything she was saying. i've decided though that my life is too chaotic and i'd be mad to take on anything that needed me to commit so much of my time. i may do the nvq2 and the 3 next year but i haven't decided yet.

I am sorry I know I shouldn't have (and I also know it is horrible of me!!) but I had a little giggle at what you wrote - it sounds like my house most days - lol!! Seriously - I am sorry things went a little 'pear shape' but give yourself a little time and have a good think about it you will probably be ok but as you said it depends on what other committments you have. Take care Dee

i know as i was writing it i was laughing, it sounds like i was making it up but honestly it was as bad as it sounds. i am working full time with a new (5 week) old baby starting in sept plus a 7 month and an 18 month and all of the after school kids so i think that in reality it will be too much for me, plus i am secretary of our local scout group and on the committee of the play forum. there isn't a night when i'm home all evening. and with 3 teenagers a husband and the murderous cat there just isn't enough time in the day to do it all.
and i've been told that it's too late to put the kids up for adoption x

you made me giggle as well, but like the others I will pass up on your kind offer, love little ones as you can stick a lolly in their darling little mouths for five mins peace and quite but the bigger ones take up too much floor space, and talk round the lolly,

Where did you find a course that fits in with minding??
My local Early Years have offered to pay for my NVQ3 but I can't find a course locally that doesn't involve college/placement in nursery setting.
Do you have to do the level 2 qualification before or can you start at 3??
Anyone know??? donna

Registerd childminders dont have to do the nvq2 as you're working with children. Some areas do home based courses, my course is going to be an evening a week at college - but I think I will be better at getting stuff done that way - get to meet new people too! There is curretnly funding in our area from the 'transformation fund' not sure if it is a nationwide thing but I think it is only available for a while so best to get it while its hot so as to speak! Your local childminding body should be able to help, if not is there a training department at your council?

It was my childcare co-ordinator who got in touch with me about the NVQ3 & it was also her that found the home based course. Might worth trying to contact yours and she maybe able to give you more info.
I too have not got NVQ2 & going straight on to NVQ3.

I have no idea how on earth I am doing it but I am doing really well according to my assessor - I have covered 301, 302, 316, and 320 so far. She asked me yesterday if I wanted a break for the summer but I have choosen to get on with it and am doing 303 which looks quite heavy but ties in with unit 5 of the DHC (which I have just handed in).
You will all be fine with it. When you assessor comes out, just carry on doing what you do normally - you may have to set up certain activities to be able to demonstrate that you "do" certain things. Its a little bit like your inspection, the more you can show the assessor and tell her about the more She'll have to write down in evidence and it will all cross-ref.

Hello 'new person alert' ;D I'm doing my NVQ3 ccld, and am due to be finished soon. I started it May 06, one of the first to start the new CCLD in Bedfordshire. I won't say it's not hard work cos it blooming well is, after 3-6 children 8-6, then sorting my two out, then studying once their in bed it can get very hard! With all the stuff ofsted need us to do also but hey hehe it's worth it all at the end all the day I say. Your very lucky to have the support of all these people about to start, no other childminders in my area doing this so it's been very lonely - not now I've found you lot
