Hello all. My first time on here! I have a bit of a dilema, although some I've spoken to think it's clear cut. I have two parents who pay me an average weekly amount. I worked out what they would pay in term time and holidays (13 weeks of holiday) and divided all that by 52. I'm closed from Dec 21st to Jan 2nd. Do they still pay me their weekly fee? I'm told by two other childminders I know that they do, it's an average and they pay the same every week regardless. One pays me via standing order so I don't want to be paying back £ either!! I assume as I worked it out like that, and they accepted, that it stays that way. I initally said I'd refund some of the money as I'm closed, but now I'm having to go back on that. Help!! I've got myself in a muddle!! Thanks for any advice.

you divided the yearly cost by 52, so yes, they pay you for 52 weeks of the year

yes youhave already accounted for it in the 13 weeks hol etc and spread annual cost between 52 weeks. It can be worth doing a statement ( a bit like a gas or elec statement) to show actual hours booked each week or month against what has been paid. Balance at end will go up and down each month depending on whether hols have been taken etc but it should work itself back to zero after a full year.
Make a note of when your year starts so that you know when to re-work payment amount

Thanks. Really appreciate the advice from those with more experience!! The thing is though, I have the children term AND holiday time so I have charged for term and holiday time, for the full year. That's my dilema, I guess, that I haven't factored any free weeks into the 52 weeks. I think I should have made it 11 or 12 weeks of holiday, not 13, because of Christmas? S

in future you could work it out by 50 weeks, it would be slightly more a week, but then they could have a two week "payment holiday" around Xmas then? Some councils work their rent out like this and very handy it's been in the past too!
