yes without your CRB you wont get your registration certificate and you cannot mind until you have that.

Sorry to drop this one on you too but a lot of newly registered childminders are not adhering to this so thought I would take the opportunity to highlight it.

Newly registered minders think that they can mind as soon as they have they registration certificate in their hand - YOU CANNOT.

You also have to have your Public Liabilty certificate in your hand too which of course you cannot get until you have your URN number which is on you registration certificate.

If your area gives you a start up grant you have to give your Early Years Team your URN on the start up application and they will get your public liabilty set up for you (depending on which company you use) but this generally takes a few weeks.

If you want to mind straight away tell them and they will get a temporary cover note sent out to you within a few days but you CANNOT mind until you have it in your hands.

If your area does not give you a start up grant you still have to arrange your public liabilty and have a certificate in your hands before you can start minding.

I hope this helps

Thats weird because you shouldn't be able to gain public liabilty for childminding until you have a registration certificate????

I think maybe NCMA have slipped up (again!!!)

Yes sorry that's exactly what I mean by URN.

I am surprised Ofsted gave you the URN before issuing you with the certificate as they were supposed to stop this practice therefore you would only get URN when you received the certificate - suppose another case of Ofsted and their inconsistencies.

For you though it's a good thing as you are one step ahead - you must be looking forward to finally getting your certificate so you can start minding?

Yes - it has been a bit of a bad year for me and my family so have kind of decided to 'forget' christmas this year.

We are flying out to Egypt on 13th December and coming back day after Boxing day - have to say I am looking forward to going and to have a break!

yea they went in a hot air balloon there too it was really cheap over there and they took photographs of the houses they live in there and they were so basic they didnt have roofs on their houses so was easy to see into them and they were amazed at how basicly they lived compared to us.

It was a bit like this when I went to Cuba.

The people are really poor and live in what can only be described as shacks and sheds. Some of them were quite distressing to see

I was a little confused and wondered if I had got it wrong and checked.

Apparantly it can sometimes vary from area to area (I really don't know why!). The system is changing again (no surprises there ::)) and some areas have not yet got up to speed but all areas will soon be doing the same thing.

So you were right Louise (Littlesprogs) it would seem that your area is more efficient than mine ;)

Hi Guys,
Can anyone tell me how long it took for your CRB to come back.I guess it depends on the demand they have at the time. But if you could give me a rough idea that would be good.I have got my inspection 10th Dec.But with it being so near to xmas I guess I will be lucky if I get it back before then.

My CRB was fast-tracked but it still took about 4˝ - 5 months. It was a nightmare waiting so long. My advice would be to get your CRB paperwork submitted ASAP.

I have had one done recently and it took 3 weeks!! I know this one was sent on the day I completed it so I think it also depends on how long OFSTED (or whoever) hold onto it before sending.

I had my inspection 28th november and Ofsted posted my crb's for me and husband on the 29th according to their computer system. Still no sign of either of us getting them back yet!

& I really want to get them so I can get reg number and insurance and start minding!

Saying that I put in for my 1st aid training and the paperwork for that hasn't arrived back yet so i don't know if early years are sitting on that one or the postman!

Fingers crossed I've my ICP exam next tuesday but since they cancelled my 1st date for it the night before the exam I'm not holding my breath for it!

Sorry for the rant it just seems like so much is in the hands of other people & not all of them are as committed to getting me minding as I am!
